About Laguiole Jean Dubost
The family company Jean Dubost was founded in 1920. It is now run by the fourth generation, combining traditional knife-making with modern industrial techniques.
The Laguiole Jean Dubost range is entirely produced in France. Apart from a few tropical woods, all materials, including steel and handles, are sourced in France. In the factory, raw steel (AISI 420, hardness HRC 52/56) passes through nine production stages to become a sharp, polished blade. Around 1.5 million Laguiole steak knives are made annually, nearly half of which are exported.
Note: there are also imitation Laguiole knives, mostly produced in China. Although the logo and bee are often copied, the materials and manufacturing quality are significantly lower. Authentic knives always have “France” engraved in the blade; without this, the knife is not French-made and not authentic.
